That way, you’ll be able to see your growth over time while still being proud of all these past versions of yourself. □ Document the process, whether that’s by creating a public account where you share clips of how you’ve built your business or a private note on your phone where you write down your wins. □ Relationship-building > networking: Everyone networks, but not everyone builds relationships – and relationship building is in the art of the follow up, whether that’s remembering someone’s birthday or project milestone or sending them a note of appreciation! These connections will go a long way. □ Identify what goals are yours: A lot of other people have dreams and aspirations for you, and that’s always appreciated! I always appreciate when someone tells me about the impact of one of my stories, webinars, or podcast episodes, so I want to pay that forward! I even told Colina Bruce, founder of Noir Lux Candle Bar, that my fiancée and I made candles the morning that we got engaged! I ended up talking to Jessica Shea, the founder of Trophy Cupcakes, about how in college, about how in college, my friends would buy each other cupcakes to celebrate birthdays and big milestones like getting into our majors or landing internships! I talked to Robin, the founder of Hello Robin, about how whenever my friends and I crave a late night sweet treat, we start doing the mental math of it we can make it to Hello Robin before they close and hopefully grab the last of whatever seasonal offering they’re baking up that day. My friend Jackie gave me a piece of advice that changed my perspective: If you meet a small business owner and you now their product, tell a story about what it means to you! This made me stand up a little straighter - I love telling stories! I’ve been on a mission to meet more creatives and small business owners, and I’ve also been challenging myself to introduce myself as a writer versus leading with the large tech company I work for - after all, layoffs in my industry was the catalyst for building something for myself outside of the corporation I worked for! So I recently went to the grand opening party of the FRANKIE4 location in the Bellevue Square mall, and I was nervous - like *nervous* nervous.
